They said, “Life is a jungle.”
I wonder some people seemed to consider this life as a zoo. They are just sitting back in their comfort zones and waiting to be fed by the zoo keeper. Weak and no will for struggling.
In Indonesia, or any other countries with high Gini Index, some lazy people try to improve their finance situation by begging. In Ramadan, Jakarta was full of temporary beggars, bummers, also garbage collector pretenders who sit on the cart with the fake family, to get the have’s empathy. Ministry of Social predicted, there are about 5,000 people came to Jakarta annually to have that temporary ‘job’ and returned to their hometowns before Eid Al-Fitr.
World Bank mentioned, Indonesia’s disparity keeps increasing in the last few years. In 2013, Gini coefficient reached 41%, rocketing from 30% in year 2000. Although BPS said that the ratio is slightly decreasing this year.
Well, in my humble opinion and careless common sense, I divide people between them who consider life as a jungle and people who consider life as a zoo.
It’s not fair for people who are lazy, but labeled in the middle class. Whilst people who try hard to feed their family–eventhough it’s not enough–are staying in the low class. Well, at least they’re trying and they deserve some respect.
I don’t like giving money to beggars, bad street singers, nor exploited children. But I respect REAL garbage collectors or street vendors or anyone who REALLY work to earn money. They try and I believe they’ll get good deeds whereever they belong. Amen.
Some people are luckier than them. But not all those lucky persons have a will to struggle.
Despite what capitalism has caused the world or how much you dislike capitalism, you cannot run from the fact that this is a capitalist society. Competition means everything. You have to adapt and fight to dominate. The strongest wins.
What do you want to do with your live if you have no goal and no desire to strive in this world freedom and free market?
I realised that some people become underhanded to beat or hurt others. They want to be the champion. Well, I don’t agree that slithery is a way to mastering the forest. It can also be achieved by an untainted competition.
Ambition can be both good and destroying as well. 🙂
“Capitalism demands the best of every man—his rationality—and rewards him accordingly. It leaves every man free to choose the work he likes, to specialize in it, to trade his product for the products of others, and to go as far on the road of achievement as his ability and ambition will carry him.” – Ayn Rand
There are so many things that we must fight to survive. It can be start from competing ourselves, at first. Be a wild animal. Life isn’t a zoo.
